Jets GM says Chad Pennington will return next year
Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said today that quarterback Chad Pennington will be back and battle second-year man Kellen Clemens for the starting job in training camp. It had been widely speculated that the club would look to trade Pennington for a draft picks. "He's under contract,'' Tannenbaum said. "I expect him to be back." Pennington, benched after week eight, had made it clear that he still felt he was a starter in the league and wanted a chance - either with the Jets or elsewhere. Clemens still is regarded as the Jets' quarterback of the future, but he struggled in eight starts last season, posting a 3-5 record. He completed 59 percent of his passes, throwing five touchdowns against 10 interceptions. The Jets finished 4-12 and will pick 6th in April's NFL draft.

FTI holds forth in turbulent '07
Strong earnings growth helped drive stock gains at Vocus as well as Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. parent Constellation Energy Group Inc., which rose 49 percent, and United Therapeutics Corp., a Silver Spring biotech that was up 80 percent. United jumped more than 35 percent in one day in November when it reported its net income increased by 75 percent.
Meanwhile, Medifast Inc., the Owings Mills maker of diet meals, sharply cut its earnings forecast for 2007; its stock dropped 61 percent. And stock in Vanda Pharmaceuticals Inc., an unprofitable Rockville drugmaker, declined 72 percent. Both were among 2006's best Maryland performers.
TVI Corp., the Glenn Dale manufacturer of decontamination shelters, and Lanham-based Radio One Inc. ranked among the worst stocks in 2006 and continued their losing streaks.
